Proverbs 20:27 “The Lord’s lamp sheds light on a persons life, searching the innermost parts”

Where do you place your identity? Sports, relationships, physical appearance?

Throughout my life I’ve struggled with feeling alone and hopeless at times. I prayed for intentional friendships and someone or something that would fill a void inside. As always, God delivered and blessed me with the friends I had prayed about. When I moved to a new town in 4th grade He blessed me with my best friends Sophie and Emme. When I moved into a new neighborhood freshman year He introduced me to Brooke, who I would soon spend everyday with. Before studying abroad in Spain I prayed I would meet 3 close friends and I left with my new family Alexa, Jade, and George. When I fell back into a feeling of depression junior year he reintroduced me to my best friend/soul sister Emma. When I skyrocketed in my growing faith senior year He gave me the best Christian community I could ask for (my WR ladies).  With all that said, I can confidently say I know He listens- I’m a living testimony! But even after He continually provided there were times where I felt like something was missing. What’s wrong with me… I have a supportive family and friends who cared about me but I still felt alone. It wasn’t until I began to seek God wholeheartedly that I realized no person, sport, hobby, college (etc.) would fill that void. I had to learn to place my identity in Christ. The relationship I had been praying about all along was mine and Gods. He heard every cry, every laugh, every prayer, EVERYTHING!

We all struggle in different ways. Maybe you’ve been placing your identity in your grades or what colleges you were accepted to. Maybe you’ve been placing your identity in sin and temporary enjoyment. Maybe you’ve placed your identity in who you hang out with or whether or not you have a bf/gf. No matter where you find your identity crisis now‘s the time to fix it. None of these things determine your worth and none of these things will ever fully satisfy you!! No amount of money, no weight on the scale, no boyfriend, no college will ever bring you happiness. We will always be seeking more but we need to realize the only way to be truly satisfied is to surrender all. The same God who created the earth created YOU. And he wants a relationship with you! All you have to do is seek Him like you would any other friend. Get to know Him by spending time in His Word. I promise that once you start spending time with the Lord He will reveal himself to you. I would LOVE to have a conversation with anyone who’s reading this confused or doubtful. He cares about you and it’s never too late to run to Him!!

Romans 3:3-4 “If some did not believe, will their unbelief cancel God’s faithfulness? Absolutely not! God must be true, even if everyone is a liar.” He is actively working through your life right now even if you don’t see it.

One response to “Identity Crisis”

  1. WOW, Becca, your message is amazing!!
The spirit of God is working in you and through you in a mighty way!!!
That feeling of loneliness is a place I find myself in at times, and God always delivers me and revels to me where I need to grow. It always starts with depending more on him and less on myself or others.
    I love you
    I love your spirit
I love your passion for Christ.
    Love your biggest fan!
